WASHINGTON, DC — Today, May 11, 2020, the Voter Protection Project is announcing their endorsement of Tedra Cobb in New York’s 21st Congressional District.
Founded in 2019, the Voter Protection Project is a leading political arm working to end partisan gerrymandering and voter suppression across the country. In light of the Supreme Court’s Rucho v. Common Cause ruling last year, which stated that federal courts cannot regulate partisan gerrymandering, VPP has been taking the fight to Republicans state-by-state supporting candidates for office at the federal and state levels that are champions for voter equality.
“Since her early days in elected office Tedra Cobb has been fighting for the issues central to the Voter Protection Project’s mission,” said Voter Protection Project President Matt Liebman. “We know that when elected to Congress, Tedra Cobb will be a partner we can count on, which is why we are proud to endorse her.”
Liebman continued:
“Instead of making voting more accessible and secure for the 2020 election, Representative Elise Stefanik has consistently championed Donald Trump’s reckless agenda to undercut the right of people to vote. The people of Upstate New York deserve better than Elise Stefanik.”
In contrast, Tedra Cobb has been committed to protecting our Democracy her entire career. During her time on the St. Lawrence County legislature, she authored and secured passage of an ethics law to hold elected officials accountable to their constituents. This led to her being appointed to the New York State Committee on Open Government where she worked to improve local government transparency and openness.
“The right to vote is the foundational principle of our democracy.” said Cobb. The only way we can ensure the security of our democracy is to protect and expand voting rights and access for all Americans. On the St. Lawrence County Legislature, I pushed and passed a tough ethics law to hold elected officials accountable. That’s the type of fight I will continue in Washington.”
During her campaign for Congress, Cobb has committed to continue to reject voter suppression tactics such as voter ID laws, gerrymandering and roll backs to the Voting Rights Act. She has also laid out a plan to reduce government corruption.
Cobb is running to oust current representative Congresswoman Elise Stefanik who became a GOP firebrand during President Trump’s impeachment hearings.
