Plurality of Voters Say It’s “Time for Someone New”
SACRAMENTO, CA – A new poll released by the Voter Protection Project (VPP) shows that Rep. Jeff Van Drew is increasingly vulnerable, signaling that New Jersey’s Second Congressional District is a prime pickup opportunity for Democrats. This latest PPP poll conducted on behalf of VPP between May 21-22, 2025, of 505 registered voters NJ-02 voters shows a potential path for adding this district to the list of competitive battleground races ahead of the 2026 midterm election. Highlights from the poll are below.
Van Drew’s position with likely voters is soft. Only 41% of those polled have a favorable opinion of Rep. Van Drew, 7 points back from Trump. Van Drew starts under 50% in a potential vote and 42% of likely voters think it’s time to elect someone new in this district.
After hearing messaging about large planned cuts to Medicaid that would give tax cuts to billionaires, 47% of those polled are ready to move on from their incumbent member of Congress.
“Rep. Van Drew is a traitor against Democracy and his seat should be targeted for that reason alone,” said Heather Grevenworth, Executive Director of the Voter Protection Project. “This new polling proves that Van Drew is disliked, vulnerable, and could have a real fight on his hands in this competitive midterm election environment. Our group is highly motivated to find and support a candidate who can put this seat on the map and help deliver the majority to the Democrats next fall.”
