Voter Protection Project Endorses Nabilah Islam in Georgia’s 7th Congressional District

Today, March 11th, 2020, the Voter Protection Project is announcing their endorsement of Nabilah Islam in Georgia’s 7th Congressional District.

Founded in 2019, the Voter Protection Project is a leading political arm working to end partisan gerrymandering and voter suppression across the country. In light of the Supreme Court’s Common Cause ruling last year, VPP has been taking the fight to Republicans state-by-state supporting candidates for office at the federal and state levels that are champions for voter equality.

“The Voter Protection Project is proud to endorse Nabilah Islam,” said Voter Protection Project President Matt Liebman. “She fundamentally understands that our political system places the concerns of corporate interests and billionaires ahead of everyday working people like herself. In Congress, we know that Nabilah will take on the tough challenges to get big money out of politics, make voting accessible for all, ensure our elections are fair and be a voice for the change we need in Washington.”

Referred to by NBC News as “Atlanta’s Own AOC” Nabilah has a powerful story rooted in being raised by working-class immigrants from Bangladesh. She gained national attention late last year for putting her student loans in forbearance and canceling her healthcare in order to afford her run for Congress.

Georgia’s 7th Congressional District is one of Democrats’ top pick-up opportunities nationally in 2020. Republican Representative Rob Woodwall decided not to seek re-election after winning by only a few hundred votes in the 2018 election.

The Voter Protection Project plans to put their full weight behind Nabilah’s candidacy.
